Thanks to Lisa and Jim and anyone else out there who accepted my Scrabblepoem challenge. Coming in at 2.07 points (624 Scrabble score divided by 301 total letters), my offering:

Once upon a day quite sunny,
Just because I thought ’twas funny,
I blazed a challenge—
Clanq!Yea, Scrabblepoem of piquant delight,
The highest score my aim in flight,
Behold my challenge—
Clanq! When I began to scope my tiles,
My confidence fled; thence my smiles:
I’d lost my prized K—
Clanq!Though I’d flung my gauntlet bold,
My courage failed (my feet quite cold)…
Quoth my tiles—
Clanq!
Don’t worry, I haven’t quit my day job yet. To enjoy some REAL poetry, check out today’s Poetry Friday offerings at Wild Rose Reader.
Hee hee hee… That is funny! Thanks again for the fun challenge. It was a good distraction this week.
Also, I think you should get double points for using a wonderful word like “piquant”!
Yeah, I was really stretching for words with those Qs and Zs. Maybe my approach was wrong–I wrote the poem first and then tried to substitute higher-scoring words, instead of thinking of all the high-scoing words and then putting them into a poem. Maybe next time…
Thanks for playing along!
This is cute!
Thanks, Barbara! I’m not sure it was the best use of my time these past few days, but I had fun.
How fun! I LOVE scrabble tiles.
Me, too, Jama; though as much as I love words, I’m not that great at the game (my nine-year-old son recently beat me).
Try the papermoondesigns shop at etsy.com. She uses Scrabble tiles and beautiful paper to make pendants!
What a cute idea!
What fun! Such a great idea. I can’t wait till my kids are a little older and can play scrabble with me!
Thanks, Kelly–though as you can see I ended up being not very good at my own challenge!
Janet–My son started “playing” Scrabble with me at a young age, before he could really spell or read. We would just make simple, three-letter words (my usual level of playing anyway
). Lately, all my kids (12, 9, & 5) have been playing the computer game “Text Twist 2″ with me–it’s addictive!
Love your poem — and yours is actually more than eleven words!
Thanks, Jim. It did occur to me (too late) that fewer words would probably be better in terms of scoring.
Anyway, I knew I was doomed from the moment you joined the competition.
Really fun!
Jet
Hi, Jet, and thanks. We should make it an annual event, no?
Very fun challenge. Is there a book idea in this somewhere for you, Jennifer? I guess you’d have to get together with the Scrabble people, but I’ve seen M&M and Cheerios books, so…
Scrabble is the one board game that has stood the test of time in holding my interest. I still play when my family gets together.

Hi, Joan. Thanks for stopping by. A book of Scrabblepoems? A book of mathematical poems? Hmmm…now you have me thinking, for sure!
I love this game. My kids and I can play it for hours~!
